Adult flag football tournament

A flag football tournament will be held in Gonzales on April 12 at the practice fields south of Apache Stadium. Start time to be announced.

Proceeds will go to the local Cross Roads Youth Football League program.

Winners of the tournament will receive T-Shirts and a trophy. Depending on the success of the tournament, a flag football league in Gonzales will be started shortly after.

Teams will have a maximum of 12 players on the roster and entry fee is $150, and is due by Saturday. A $25 late fee will be added from this date until the day of the tournament.

Tournament rules will be 7-on-7 rules and be provided to teams upon payment.

Lady Cardinal cagers garnish post-season awards

Shiner St. Paul senior Jacy Pawelek was named to the TAPPS 2A All-State Team and was selected for the 2A-5 All-District First Team.

Sophomore Natalie Jackson was also given First-Team honors.

Chosen for the Second Team were sophomores Shaelynn Malatek and Ashlyn Patek, and junior Abby Irvin.

Senior Christina Sqyres and sophomore Jordan Pawelek were Honorable Mentions.

 

Stache Dash 5K

The Stache Dash 5K Run/Walk Running for our Community will be held May 3 at 8 a.m. at the Gonzales Independence.

Registration is $20 before May 2 and $30 on the day of the race, and participants will receive a T-shirt if registered by April 15.

Lady Apache basketball camp

The Lady Apaches Basketball camp will be held June 16-18 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Gonzales High School Special Events Center (new gym) for players in incoming grades 3-8. The cost is $30 and the campers will be taught fundamental skills like dribbling, passing and shooting. Every camper will receive a basketball and camp T-shirt.

Campers must be registered and paid by April 10.

Local hoops players make Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) All-Region Teams

Nixon-Smiley senior Alena Alvarez was chosen for the Girls Class 2A TABC All-Region  team.  She averaged 11.1 points a game, 3.8 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 5.5 steals.
Mustang sophomore Sam Moore made the 2A Boys All-Region team. He had 17.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.1 steals.

Hallettsville’s Jimario Grounds also made the Class 2A Boys All-Region Team.

 

Yoakum men’s basketball league
The Yoakum adult men’s basketball spring/summer league is still looking for teams .Game nights will be on Sundays through July. If interested in signing a team up for the league, please call Mike McCracken at 361-655-2909.
